Technology innovations and industry developments will be the focus of ME-TECH 2017

Middle East Technology Forum for Refining & Petrochemicals (ME-TECH 2017) will take place from 21 to 23 February, 2017 in the Madinat Jumeirah Dubai, UAE.

Middle East Technology Forum for Refining & Petrochemicals (ME-TECH 2017), which will be held in Dubai, UAE this coming February, will have a strong focus on the latest technology innovations and industry developments shaping the oil & petrochemical sectors.

Two of the key discussion areas will center on clean fuels technologies and the impact of future Environmental regulations. The forum will welcome updates from some of the region’s major projects such as Sabic’s oil-to-chemicals and KNPC’s clean fuels project.

Industry conference

Colin Chapman, President of Euro Petroleum Consultants – organizer of the conference, observes that ‘the economic climate and oil price have been the focus of many industry conferences over the last 18 months, but interestingly, companies are now adjusting and moving forward by committing to new innovative technologies, planning ahead for upcoming regulations such as MARPOL – International Martine Organisation (IMO) and we look forward to hosting the industry’s key players to showcase future developments”.

Residue upgrading remains a strong point of interest, as many operators look to maximize the bottom of the barrel. Süleyman Özmen, Vice President Refining and Chemical Licensing at Shell Global Solutions tells us that “two of the key challenges facing our industry today are the management of residue processing to minimize fuel oil production and finding ways to produce more clean transportation fuels. In 2020, International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations will tighten the global cap on the maximum sulfur content of marine fuel oil from 3.5 to 0.5%, and the industry will have to find solutions that will enable its cost-effective production.”

Optimization

Conference sponsors, Honeywell UOP, are following this innovation trend and will be sharing their revolutionary new business offering called ‘Connected Performance Services (CPS)’ using the Industrial Internet to run refineries by combining UOP’s deep process knowledge with Honeywell’s software capabilities. The result is smarter plants that run better and are less likely to be impacted by downtime. When asked about the industry’s next revolution Honeywell UOP had this to say: We can see ‘Asset Optimization’ as the next big development.

Optimization is a major theme of the ME-TECH Forum and delegates will hear from important names from the sector such as Schneider Electric, BAPCO and PAS in this focused session. Industry giant ExxonMobil recognizes the importance of this well-established event and adds, “ME-TECH is a great opportunity for ExxonMobil’s Technology Licensing and Catalysts global business to efficiently and effectively reach many people and companies in the refining, gas and petrochemical sectors in the Middle East. With the myriad of challenges faced by the industry today, it is critical to stay abreast of the latest industry developments and trends, as well as communicate our technology solutions to these challenges.”

ME-TECH 2017 – the 7th Middle East Technology Forum for Refining & Petrochemicals – will take place on 21-23 February, 2017 in the Madinat Jumeirah Dubai. The Forum will begin on 21 February with the pre-conference seminar hosted by Honeywell and the conference will continue on 22 & 23 February, 2017 with plenary and technical sessions.
